In early grades, the process of comparing and contrasting texts with similar topics but differing characters is prevalent within the standards. This text set provides both fictional stories about crayons and colors and non-fiction texts about how crayons are made and the different colors all around us. How can students tell if a text is fictional? What about non-fiction, what are the characteristics of this text type? Use graphic organizers and other tools to compare and contrast. Then use the color paddles to identify and make new colors with primary and secondary color exploration. The art teacher will be so excited!
